What is Psychological Testing?
Psychological testing, also known as psychological assessment, is the process of administering various types of tests to evaluate an individual’s cognitive abilities, intelligence level, learning differences, and emotional functioning.
The testing psychologist will carefully select the tests given to the child based on the information desired about the child’s functioning and development. In most cases, a child will complete 1-4 tests.
What types of tests will my child complete?
Below are some of the psychological tests we may administer at Pediatric Psychological Testing Services facility:
- ADOS-2
- MIGDAS
- Intelligence Test
- Developmental Questionnaire
- Behavior Questionnaire
- Language Use
- Sensory Processing Scale
How long does the process take?
The process in its entirety can require approximately a total of 6-8 hours. This amount of time is divided into multiple appointments. Expect to attend an intake session to gather historical information, then test sessions lasting 2-4 hours each, followed by a 1-hour feedback session with the caregiver(s) and child.
It is best if this entire process takes place within 1-2 weeks. If too much time takes place between appointments, it may risk the validity and reliability of the results.
What is a psychological test report?
A psychological test report is a private 6-9 paged word document created by the testing psychologist for the family and youth to keep. The report typically states what tests were administered, the client’s test results, scores, explanation of the results and diagnosis, and the doctor’s recommendations.
